Portugal hits record power consumption in Jan, renewables meet 76%

Portugal’s national grid operator Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN) announced on Tuesday that the country has registered its highest monthly electricity consumption ever in January and that renewables have covered 76% of the demand.

According to data by REN, Portugal’s total power consumption for the first month of the year amounted to 5 TWh, which corresponds to an year-on-year increase of 2.1%, or 1.6% when correcting for the effects of temperature and the number of working days.

Wind and hydroelectric power covered 35% and 30% of the total demand, respectively, while solar photovoltaic (PV) and biomass power met 6% and 5%. Natural gas production and imported energy supplied the remaining 14% and 10%, respectively.

Annual income for these purposes does not include money withdrawn from my pension savings (except where the withdrawals are used directly for income in retirement). I held, throughout the financial year immediately preceding the date below, net assets to the value of £250,000.00 or more. Net assets for these purposes do not include:
a. The property which is my primary residence or any money raised through a loan secured on that property; or b. Any rights of mine under a qualifying contract of insurance; or c. Any benefits (in the form of pensions or otherwise) which are payable on the termination of my service or on my death or retirement and to which I am (or my dependants are), or may be, entitled; or d.
