Spain’s renewables surge to 55.8% share in Jan

Renewables generated 13,524 GWh of Spain’s electricity in January, a 12% increase year-on-year, representing 55.8% of total generation in the country, according to preliminary figures released by Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).

The renewables share a month earlier was 47.6%.

Wind power led the generation mix in January with a 30.9% share, followed by nuclear (21.5%), combined cycle gas turbines (13.8%), and hydro (13.3%). Solar photovoltaic power generation grew by 18.6%, reaching a 9.5% share of the mix.

Additionally, 444 GWh of electricity was stored in energy storage systems, and 1,120 GWh was exported to neighbouring countries.

As much as 77.2% of all electricity in January was produced from emission-free sources, REE said.

I had, throughout the financial year immediately preceding the date below, an annual income to the value of £100,000.00 or more. Annual income for these purposes does not include money withdrawn from my pension savings (except where the withdrawals are used directly for income in retirement). I held, throughout the financial year immediately preceding the date below, net assets to the value of £250,000.00 or more. Net assets for these purposes do not include:
