In a landmark decision, the UK government has approved the expansion of the Rampion offshore wind farm off the Sussex coast. The project, known as Rampion 2, will add 90 new turbines, generating an additional 1.2 gigawatts of clean energy—enough to power approximately one million homes.

Construction is slated to begin next year, creating around 4,000 jobs during the development phase. The expansion is a significant contribution to the government’s broader energy strategy, which includes doubling onshore wind capacity, tripling solar power, and quadrupling offshore wind capabilities by 2030. The aim is to reduce gas-generated electricity to just 5% of the UK’s energy mix.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband highlighted the importance of the project in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and securing affordable, sustainable energy for the future. Rampion 2 is poised to supply nearly 75% of Sussex’s electricity needs, marking a substantial step towards the UK’s clean energy goals .
