Capital Flows Into Clean Energy
In 2025, green finance in the UK has reached record levels, with over £38 billion in private and public investment directed toward sustainable energy, transport, and infrastructure projects in the first half of the year.
The surge reflects growing investor confidence in clean technologies, strong government support, and the increasing profitability of renewables.
The Green Investment Bank 2.0
The relaunch of the UK Infrastructure Bank in 2024, with a stronger green mandate, has played a major role. By co-investing in low-carbon projects — including solar farms, hydrogen hubs, and grid upgrades — the bank is crowding in private capital and accelerating the delivery of key national priorities.
So far in 2025, the bank has committed over £8 billion in loans and equity stakes across the UK, unlocking an estimated £20 billion in third-party funding.
ESG Demand Drives Market Shift
Institutional investors are increasingly prioritising Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals, and UK pension funds, insurers, and sovereign funds are reallocating toward green assets.
Clean energy ETFs, green bonds, and sustainable infrastructure funds are in high demand, and the London Stock Exchange’s Green Economy Mark is attracting international capital into UK-listed companies with strong climate credentials.
Small Investors Get Involved
Thanks to platforms like Abundance Investment and Ripple Energy, UK residents are investing directly in community solar projects, onshore wind farms, and energy storage systems — often from as little as £5.
These platforms are enabling the public to not only profit from the energy transition, but to own a piece of it.
